With May having already arrived, part of Kate and my schedule over the past couple of weeks was getting organised to head up north. I seemed odd that meant a lot of checking ice charts and all means possible to see if the bay had opened up sufficiently for a trip.
After some last minute contact with Thompson Marine, they were just in the middle of putting docks in let lone boats, we borrowed a little 8HP runabout and headed up the channel wondering what we might find?
With ice still being reported, our slow journey afforded plenty of time to reflect on the Franklin Expedition, Celine Dion, I mean the Titanic, life on the frozen Mackenzie delta and Aklavik and Tuktoyaktok, ......
Having spent short weeks here in January and February, I recognise these patches and pieces of ice and snow.
We were lucky that our island cut-off is just before open Georgian Bay water, or in this case solid Georgian Bay ice pack.
Cold as it was, our chores of cleaning up after our winter visits had us outside some.
Having lunch outdoors kept the drinks cold.
As in our winter visits, our cabin serves us so well that not so secretly we are enjoying the warm stove while we listen to the cold rain fall.
STAY TUNED FOR TOMORROWS EPISODE - SHADES OF SHACKLETON.
