GIMILI MOTORSPORT PARK, GIMLI, MANITOBA, CANADA

When I was looking at the map and started to connect the dots between Saskatoon and Thunder Bay,
there weren't too many specific destinations I felt I must go and see.

The only place I really wanted to visit was Gimli, Manitoba.
Both for it's reputation of a fun resort town on the shores of Lake Winnipeg
and the nearby motorsport park that holds some history in Canadian racing history.
Brother John raced here in the '70's.

Happened upon a little regional, run-what-you-brung weekend.
It was a non-spectator event,
but the organizers graciously extended some "Friendly Manitoba" hospitality and granted
me a pass and a piece of grass.

The track was built utilizing a portion of an partially abandoned WWII Air Force training facility.

There wasn't that much going on,
but what was going on was interesting.

With all ending well, regrettably the town and track is most famous for the ilfated
"Gimli Glider".
An Air Canada jet that was subject to an almost disasterist miscalculation, conversion, .......
of litres to gallons.
Plain old ran out of fuel and miraculously landed here.

Not to often do I pop out of the tent and see.........

A steady rain over night was nice enough to take abreak this morning.
Packing up and heading into town.
