Our third night will be our first camping. Throughout New Zealand one can Freedom Camp in random areas. It’s a come and go, for the self contained, system that we are not completely familiar with, but get a feeling that if you do and cause no harm, you are welcome to park a caravan or pitch a tent freely in certain locals

Here at Hicks bay, one of the most furthest east spots in
New Zealand, we let our tent fly freedomly..
This part of the country is less traveled as the result of
difficulty of the roads themselves. We have quickly learned that kilometerage is
not the defining factor in travel times. Here the roads twist and turn, rise
and fall, zig and zag, Hansel and Gretel, resulting in us referring to posted
time estimations for travel. One doesn’t have much to show for yourself on a
map after five or six hours of travel.
Throw in the fact that steering wheel is on the wrong side
of the car, a few round-abouts, and that the water spirals down the toilet
counter clockwise, one does not get bored easily
Reasonable trade off for what brings us to some quiet but spectacular scenery,
Here we pitch camp for the night just on the edge of Hicks Bay
Sunset supper. Grass with a view.
