TORRES DEL PAINE, PARQUE NACIONAL, CHILE. DOMO FRANCES, HIKING TO

January 18, 2017
Day two
Lodge Grand Paine to Domo Frances.

Breakfast.
Instantly.

Gearing up!

Yesterday we hiked partially up to Refugio Lago Grey. Part of the "W" route and most notable for the views of the Grey Glacier.

Today we will first hike to Campamento Italiano.
Then up for a view of the Frances Valley and then onto Domo Frances for the night.

Los Caminante.
Si

Today we will start experiencing some of the famous winds.

Here the gusts are actually picking up the lake water to create the illusion that.........as if you were in Canada during the winter.
Fortunately we're going the right way. We'll really get some tailwind assist tomorrow.

A view of Frances Valley in the distance.

Over the wild.
Danger in every step.

Campamento Italiano.
Tenting campground.

The hike up the valley is a tough one done best with as little on your back as possible.

We are fortunate to have hiked into 14-16c temps for our week.
Single digit temps would not be unlikely..

"No preguntes por el clima, estamos en Patagonia."

We will over the week see and hear a variety of snow and ice slides as in the centre of this photo.

What could amount to a full days trek, we just partially went up the valley for a look.
Other than our full on assault up to the last torres' mirador, it won't take away from our Torres del Paine experience, but we are slowly working on doing a lower case "w" route.

Today we will skirt along the relative flat valley for a total of approximately ten kilometres.

The trail is virtually impossible to loose, but always keeps your attention as it passes through quit a mix of terrain.

Our day two target.
Domo Frances.
