TORRES DEL PAINE, PARQUE NACIONAL. HIKING TO CUERNOS

January 21, 2017
Domo Frances to Refugio Cuernos.

Buenos dias.

With spectacular vistas to our back, the whole experience is slightly tempered with views of the less dramatic Patagonian desert and foothills to the south.

The "W"
As we travel left to right, today we start passed centre and are heading to Refugio Cuernos.

The perpetual mix of sun and showers and all the rest will have us constantly rainbow spotting.

Our beautiful day is tempered with the much publicised, often cautioned about, Patagonian wind.

Winds in excess of 100kmh are apparently not uncommon.
Gusts exceeding 150kph are possible.

At an exposed  portion of the trail we both have to be vigilant to the gusts that can catch you.....

....off guard.

Our good fortune is that we are travelling windward and are soon back in the partial shelter of the forest.

Making treks.

Even with a chilling wind experience, we are extremely blessed with the sun and near perfect (above average) temperatures.

Taking a look back towards "Frances" as we close in on our next stop.

Refugio Cuernos.

Resting up for a Cuernos experience.
