MV NORTHERN RAGER, NAIN, LABRADOR - THE WILD SEA - THE PIRATES OF THE LABRADOR SEA

DAY FOURTEEN
THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2013
NAIN, LABRADOR

Today Kate and I will pack up our land legs and if there are no icebergs in the way of the Northern Ranger getting here, we're sailing south.

Before that we have a few stops to make. Our walking companion here extended to us a safe voyage.

At the Clara Hughes BBQ, some of the first people from town we meet were Henry and Shirley. They are temporally Albertan transplants that are here helping where and when help is needed.
The front door of their home is open to any kid looking for a cookie and a kind word.
We admired their commitment to our fellow man and kid kind and left with them a few of our items that could be better shared here.

I extolled to this young Innu man to join the Sherpa Brotherhood Union.

Like so many things, it aint no different here:
"What's up?"

The Northern Ranger

I remember the story of the guy who's luck was so bad that when his ship came in it was at the airport
It might as well be here as the planes come in overhead

 Welcome ATVs. Some with waggons.

Everybodys happy. Even Bob.

 A true north face.

This will be a common sight at all our ports of call. There is freighter service to all these outposts for the real serious stuff. While on the Ranger we will see some service goods being on and off loaded, but bulk will be personal items of the passenger's. ATV's, boats, snowmachines and "luggage" of every imaginable shape, size, container......

Henry gives our ship a quick approval.

Here Shirley and Henry seem to do what they do best.

Our stay in Nain has been an experience. There is much evidence of both the strides and struggles these people have and are enduring and enjoying. Our sights and seeing of just three days won't allow me a just goin' over.

But a town is not a town without it's people. We have met and enjoyed many quick hellos. But getting a bon voyage from some brief friends is always brightening when in the back of your mind one wonders if you will ever see anyone on the mainland again.
