ISLE CHILOE, CHILE

January 2, 2017

After a little rain during the evening, I don't have to write too much here how we will start our day.

One thing that this country has plenty of (we've only just begun) for free is wind. As we were packing up camp, here I telephoto Kate chasing our tent that went a good soccer pitch in length down the beach.
Glad I wasn't in it.

Today we are on route to Castro. The main town on the island that apparently has a unique barrio that's homes are shore side all on stilts.

But first lunch.

Empanada production line.

For quite a while after watching the guy make Empanadas, the women frying Empanadas, the servers delivering plate of Empanadas we thought we did a good job ordering Empanadas (Salmon) we got this. Was more than fine.

Chile's rather recent Salmon farming industry has gone through a myriad of boom and bust.
At peak, not more than ten years ago, this region was exporting over two BILLION(U.S.) dollars worth of product. Along with that came much needed prosperity for the region. It seemed that as quickly as it came it was virtually wiped out by a virus that spread thru the fish stock killing huge amounts fish and lots of the infastructure that came with it and the hopes and dreams of the many locals employed   . Even now in recovery, the whole farming concept is under heavy attack for many reasons, environmental issues, foreign national corporations continuing a LONG history of raping and prostituting the country's natural resources,...

For ordering dessert I'm going back to the old trusted  just point and smile!
Dos por favour.
