BAYFIELD INLET, POINTE AU BARIL, ONTARIO - PAUL & KATE VERSUS THE POLAR VORTEX 2014

POLAR VORTEX  - 2
PAUL & KATE      - NIL

After leaving Ridgeville early Friday morning with the plan of making Bayfield Inlet and a hike to the island, we find ourselves snuggling down for our second night in Parry Sound. Most importantly safe and warm.

Our trip up was well till just before Parry Sound when the much announced blizzard hit. Fun to be part of when one didn't really have to be anywhere. It didn't take much to decide to spend the night safe in town.

Today dawned rather wintry but soon cleared. The remnants of the storm still had the highway closed a but soon it opened much to delight I'm sure to the drivers of long lines of traffic waiting to roll.
With the sun providing some tempered ambition the cold temperatures still had us pondering our move, but ultimately being unable to access the marina because of a snowbound 529 and no snowploughs in sight, night two has us back at our Travellers Inn studying the Chinese take-out.

It seemed that from our arrival here till this morning, the snow was going so sideways that it never did accumulate in town.

Gassing up with the locals

At our regular stop at the  Shell Station in Pointe au Baril we are more accustom to buying cold treats than hot coffees.

Rubber side?

Here at the entrance of the 529 we were able to pass only a few kilometres were someone did some clean as you go. Too bad they didn't come from the marina because at one point the road was impassable with the Nemy Acura.
Nemy Snowmobile ???

Killing time waiting for the road to clear in POB

X Games view

So not to completely void the day of adventure, Kate hiked from the gas station to the coffee shop.
