Hiking Backcountry Camping Pit privy

You are 355 metres (1,165 feet) above sea level! Hike from the top of the mountain about six kilometres down to a small ocean cove and grassy clearing – the only designated wilderness camp site in the park. This was once the site of a Scottish fishing community and these settlers traded with the French for supplies. Explore the beach, roam the hills or swim in fresh or salt water. You must register at a park visitor centre prior to camping.

A blast from the past!.....nice hair eh ? Not to overlook the brand new Fonthill Grand Prix T shirt . Approximately 1989 Hyla ( not yet Auntie Hyla) and I embarked on an awesome adventure of our own. This was one of several coastal hikes along the 2 week trip. Also included was some fun visiting the Mc Donald clan ( Hyla's Fam)

The beautiful weather ....is that the wind picking up? What Gale warning??

A little cold and wet but safe after a middle of the night breaking camp. Maybe should have double checked that weather report!

MEAT COVE CAMPING, CABOT TRAIL, CAPE BRETON, NOVA SCOTIA - MORE MEAT COVE, MMMMMMMM

The weather and campsite has prompted us to spend a couple of nights here.
Realising that we can't just sleep, drink coffee and eat, we opted to scale Meat Mountain.

Here on our hike we look back to the campground.

Here we're pitched high and dry. It's when it's dark and you are low and wet that one has to revise your midnight bathroom routine.

 That's enough hiking.

With a Chowder House in our backyard, we appropriately are burning some meat for lunch so as we can fill ourselves with seafood for supper.

I wasn't going to waste my valuable time taking photos when I was hungry, so here are some "after" mussels, crab, baked potato with the works, cole slaw.... supper shots.

Here we have a few clouds roll in, but the night previous and in so many other spots, the remoteness of these locations offer the darkest skies at night.
Along with so much more, the Milky Way has become a night time regular.

FIRE!

MEAT COVE CAMPING, CABOT TRAIL, CAPE BRETON, NOVA SOTIA - GREETINGS FROM MEAT COVE

Our drive today has brought us to the furthest northern assessable point of Cape Breton, Meat Cove.
There's not much here but a campground.

There's not much to the campground other than fantastic views, congenial hosts and a chowder house.
Three for three. These will do just fine, thank you!
The fact that it was at the end of a 10km dirt road (our speciality) has resulted in the other park patrons are also of an adventurous spirit and fun to meet.

The word on the "Lonely Planet"," Trip Adviser", "Outdoor Canada" street is that this is one of everybody's fav campgrounds.
We've been a little spoiled by some stellar camp spots of late, but for a commercial campground we give it four tents out of five.

DAY TWENTY NINE
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2013
MEAT COVE, CAPE BRETON, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA

 Meat Cove morning.

I liked this spot a lot as in so many things "Going over Niagara Paul's, that we are so close to the brink, that if you wake up on the wrong side of the Therma Rest, you're in the cove. Probably with less meat.

COMING NEXT - ANYBODY UP FOR A HIKE AND SOME MEAT?
