When we, in our indirect way, found out we were heading to Spain, couldn’t quite pin them on the map, but knew that it was home to Madrid, a few other cities of note, a kind of rice a roni, some species of fly,……..
The only place that I had under my travel title of Spain was Girona. Many years ago I read about a famous, for many reasons, cyclist who had taken up home here, preceded by many, including this guy, George Hincapie.
With that residency came along a myriad of books and tales of an awesome network of training rides, historical sun drenched laneways, palm lined streets, a cycling community of professionals that bread a culture of coffee, cuisine and……………performance enhancing……, lets just say coffee, cuisine,……..
See in the picture a man who appears to be without a home? Behind him is my best detective work guess is the door accessing to former resident Lance Armstrong’s building and flat.
(There is so much written, including full admission buy Armstrong, that he moved to Girona for the convenience. The convenience that at the time, drug enforcement squads were considerably less…………..intrusive in Spain. Made for the running of midnight clandestine deliveries a little less dubious, NOT!
