CYCLING PARRY SOUND - THE TRUE and NEAR NORTH - THE OLD NIPISSING ROAD

After breaking Camp Stealth Seguin, I headed north to Magnetawan and beyond.

My True North. 

Long before the now popular cottage HIGHWAYS, Hwy 11. to North Bay and Hwy 400/69 to Sudbury, the first trail north cut through central Muskoka, was the Nipissing Road.

Now predominately abandoned. Portions have been reduced to the equivalent of cart paths and make up a portion of the Trans Canada Hiking Trail

Along the route are several "Ghost Towns"

BOO!

  A little summer rain.

Back to the new old world of Magetawan. Long on history. 

Today's story is cottage supply station. The town seems to still be suffering form losing, through  a devastating fire not long ago, one of Ontario's most famous "Country Stores"

I'm not surprised that my prayer for sunnier skies, after some brief rain, was answered.

After a couple of nights tenting, here I grab some supper, as tonight I'm gettin' a motel room.

It's looking like it's in the middle of nowhere and their cafe' closes early.

The sign does say Subs "to go"

I was just riding along minding my own business when I came upon the Seguin River. With it ending  in Parry Sound and spilling into Georgian Bay, this watercourse played a significant role in the  annual spring log drives of the past. 

(It also served as Bobby Orr's first ice on his way to NHL stardom)

That man is the richest, whose pleasure is the cheapest.

After taking a quick looksy, I noticed the bank protection for the bridge would provide for a nice tent platform. 

The subdued river would make for a a nice evening serenade.

I have absolutely no idea why I'm smiling. 

 It is Hyla being in West Africa that prompted me to buy Neil Peart's journal of his bike adventure.

Though he did not ride through The Gambia, I learned much of the general culture, hardships and more. 

(I think I learned that I will be in no rush to pack my bike up and head over. Tough livin' all around)

Heading south out of Parry Sound.

Asking for directions. 

Directions on NOT being some mammals "Meals on Wheels"

Asked if I could set my tent up inside.

Toronto bike lanes.

 Was considering taking part of the Park-to-Park trial.

Killbear to Algonquin.

The portion that I started proved a little to knarly for my road set-up.

Coming back one day with "Cross" trim.

Have been studying the area's history for many years. The overall theme of our new cottage will be patterned from the logging and timber harvesting era of many years gone by. (with Wi-Fi)
Got to remember to do the Strawberry Social.

Heading to Orrville.

My routing for the next three days will be predominately between  Huntsville and Parry Sound. 

Slightly north  of the busy cottage intensive Lakeland, Playlands.

 No Vacancy. ?

Will Keep Off and keep going to camp.

Not long ago Kate and I were returning from camp when we stopped in Parry Sound. While we were grabbing a quick bite and more, a taxi tagged the Escape. 

After meeting the party(ssssss) involved, having the Escape fixed in town was the agreed resolution.

 Ouch!

 They got right on the fix. They had to detach the car from the fender.

Traded the steering wheel for a couple of 700's. Tour time.

A quick stop in Parry Sound before heading out and hopefully NOT hitting the highway.

 The Island Queen. The local tour boat, steaming in to port.

I have absolutely no idea why I'm smiling?

Gave the "Wheel" a good spin and "Pray" for
safe passage.

Needed a quick adjustment and forgot my "149 Tools in One" at home or somewhere.
