ENID MANSFIELD, I PAUSE, SMILE AND WAVE

Its the pauses in my life that are sometimes the fullest.
Some are not planned or wished for.

Recently my other mother, Enid Mansfield, passed.

I pause to think and thank.

Enid far surpassed what in my eyes is the toughest task in life,
being a good person.

PAUL NEMY, HYLA NEMY - GRAND TARGHEE, WYOMING. GRAND IN MORE THAN NAME

DECEMBER 30, 2012

It’s comical how a guy can declare “BEST SKI AREA EVER”

GRAND TARGHEE, WYOMING, U.S.A.

For years we have been going to see Warren Miller adventure ski movies. It was actually late November that Kate and I met up with Nicola and on the eve of their cross Canada adventure, Kirsten and Hyla, to take in the latest screening..

In Warren’s movies there is no shortage of boys and girls with skis and snowboards jumping off cliffs, intentionally. Most resorts do whatever they can to draw this type of activity well outside the designated area boundary. Where Hyla and I are skied today, Grand Targhee, Wyoming they almost encourages it within the resorts bounds.
There's been much footage over the years of men and women wind milling away during their plunge to the neithers from Grand Targhee.

It was probably the name and being off the beaten track that has brought us here.
It certainly not the cliffs but the skiable terrain for two aspiring experts that have made this place our favorite, BY FAR, so far.

Here they seem to be just as interested that you have a valid lift ticket as in having a recovery beacon that works.

Where?

Here.

What we lost in style points was quickly made up in smiles points as we once again found each other at the lift ready to go again.

Once again we had rather cold temps. Hard on the pinkys but great for the snow. Had some fresh tracks on a light overnight dusting.

Once again this place had only three big lifts but more than enough to thoroughly burn up our legs much quicker than the heart was ready to let go.

Oddly the crowd was not large but it seemed the place was run over by kids. LOOK OUT BELOW!

We bumbled our way, with so much fun, through moguled bowls, glades, sweeping partially groomed blacks and most anything else around.

 Physically demanding cliff.
Did not make to many blind turns today.

Might as well jump, jump.
Go ahead and jump

COMING SOON: HOLY ACTION FROM JACKSON.

PAUL NEMY, HYLA NEMY - POSTCARDS WYOMING, USA

 DECEMBER 29, 2012

My days of wanting and being able to ski a full day are becoming less. Even with a five hour drive ahead of us, at Sun valley both Hyla and I were trying to push as long as are legs could bare.
After some quick window and deli shopping in Ketchum, we were off to Wyoming.
Grand Targhee territory.

POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE OF THE ROAD

Here we pass through Craters of the Moon National Monument.
Real Idaho lava.

You are now entering Wyoming, U.S.A.
If you ever happen to pass through Tetonia, Wyoming, we both recommend the Teton Mountain View Lodge. We arrived after check–in closed but found a nice letter welcoming us. We quickly had the microwave fired up and  did some late night dining with Tom Cruise.
We left after a self serve cook house breakfast still without meeting our hosts and the mystery baker of fresh cinnamon rolls.

GRAND TARGHEE SHOULD BE JUST AROUND THE CORNER.
