UNITED STATES of BAYFIELD INLET

JUNE, 2012

Bayfield Inlet proper is pretty not much more than a couple of marinas, a older fishing lodge that's clientele are probably still the original guests and a scattering of a dozen permanent residences. There is no reason to take the dead end Hwy 529A unless you have a boat at the end to continue your journey. The closet stoplight is probably fifty kilometers behind. The same corner as the nearest Tim's.
There's always a special feeling as we round the last curve and spot Thompson's marine crane.( I do have to talk to Corey and see if he can get that Canadian flag back up there) .
This jumping off spot has seen over one hundred years of cottaging. Early years of taking the train to Pointe au Baril, and then motor skiff to the region. Early years of getting to go to the cottage could be a weeks trip in itself. As it continues today, early tradition saw endless Americans calling The Archipelago home for the summer.
As much as we enjoy travelling in the USA, I enjoy and admire how many still end up here. It's not uncommon to see our friends from south of the 49th outnumber us "locals" in the parking lot.

OHIO
Val, by around here standards, is our neighbour. She and her husband spend summer on their island. As I am hoping to cycle through Idaho soon, I have been studying the state. Summer here, winter where you have a choice between ten ski resorts. I approve.
Our new neighbours down our channel.

Bumber sticker post coming. No secrets here who loves or $%^& Barrack! You'all.
