BAYFIELD INLET ICE HIKERS SEASON 2015

EPISODE ONE
February 2015

Kate and I now after our past three successful winter treks to our Georgian Bay Island, have made it a practise to hope for cold, ice filled winters.
We have backed off a little on the wish as we here (and after last year's Polar Vortex) suit up for our trek that was postponed one day due to @#$%^&* cold temps that saw most of North America hit record lows.
This neighbourhood in the minus 30's Celsius

Maybe one day Florida Ice hikers.

We hydrate as much as possible before departure as today our trip fluids will resemble something  much more welcomed on of hot cottage day. ICE.

We start out and pass our summer moorage, Thompson Marine.

We are now well versed in stocking our cabin in the fall for all the necessities of winter life and slide in only some frozen fresh frozen goods frozen. And then frozen!

As in years past, sledding trails afford us relatively good passage, having to avoid the snowshoes that we do have packed.

We love the whole area as for it being "Cottage Country", it's not the "Cottage Country" that gets crazy busy crazy. There are summer days the we go without more than a couple souls around our part of Bayfield Inlet.
Expecting to be on our own, we were pleasantly surprised to see a friendly waving hand out the door of this cottage. A summer visit is on our calender as we were intent on continuing our journey.

Bayfield Inlet Ice Hiker.
Got this head gear in Labrador. Made me a believer that they know what cold weather is all about.

The cold was quite tolerable absent of any Georgian Bay "breezes".

Home.
Digging out so we could go up north and .....................
Go figure.

One day if we have a ice age I'd like to drive to our island. It be just like being home.

We have now arrived at the mouth of Alexander Passage. Above I look north to our access channel.
If still there, the cabin will be in the dense clump of woods.

Here I look due west out to Georgian Bay.
Glad we won't miss our turn-off.
Can't be anything out but the Ice Hotel without the hotel part.

Looking east to Kate and where we have come from. About eight kilometres of walking on water from the marina.

 Are we there yet?
OH!
We are!

Glad to see our solar panel.
I MEAN I"M GLAD TO SEE OUR SOLAR PANEL.

Great to find everything snowbound but high, dry and very quickly warm.
Solar POWER to the people. People meaning Kate and I.

Who gets the bunk besides the fire and Lasagna?

Our Fitbit is saying that after 12967 steps we can have a extra serving.
 THANKS FITBIT.

 FIRE!!!!!

 Fire in the hole.

Good night. See you at the 2:00am stokeing.
