In 2011, longtime friends, Peter and David founded a new event, “Pedaling for Parkinson’s”, to raise awareness and research funds for Parkinson’s. Over three days, cyclists pedaled over 100,000 pedal strokes 1 pedal stroke for each Canadian diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Our inspiration was David’s father, diagnosed with Parkinson’s and a close friend/neighbour of Peter’s recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
In 2011, 20 riders participated and over $18,000 was raised.
In 2012, over 70 riders participated and over $54,000 was raised.
In 2013, we eclipsed 100 riders and generated over $95,000!
Planning is underway to run the event again on July 11th-13th, 2014 in Parry Sound, Ontario.
We hope you will consider participating in the Pedaling for Parkinson’s and help make a difference in the lives of people and families affected by Parkinson’s.
Keep spinning,
Pete and Dave
THANKS PETE and DAVE
What started out three years ago with less than a couple dozen riders, today will see well over a hundred.
A nice thing is the variety of distances offered bring out a wide range of riders.
A very friendly mix.
If not after pre-ride talks I'm not inspired by listening to the battles that some of these people face daily,
riding my bicycle for 130k's is......
This family, like many, raised BIG BUCKS
It seemed like these young guys were the driving force for the $10,000 plus they raised.
On top of that, they all rocked the 130 kilometres today.
Catching a "Domestique Cafe" wheel.
After a weekend of 300+ K's one rides and meets a lot of people.
Here for a couple of causes, cycling being second, lots of stories to share.
Again ALL rest stops were over the top. The offerings were only second to the hosts.
Home made cookies.
They found my weakness.
THAT I'M WEAK!
Big thanks to all the volunteers!
Towards the end of the ride I had to curtail my "energy loading" so as not to spoil my appetite for the great post ride BBQ.
The event is not only a fund raiser for research, but to bring awareness of the disease to the public and more fortunate. These stories and with the big help of all the fast riders I had a amazing ride.
Felling strong all day, I again finished with a big smile in five hours.
Hard to believe because I could have camped out at any rest station any time.
YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING, NUTELLA SANDWICHES!
COMING NEXT - WHO WILL DAWN BRIGHTER. THE WEATHER OR ME?
