A SUPERIOR CYCLING TOUR - D5 P1 NIPIGON TO RAINBOW PROVINCIAL PARK, ROSSPORT CAMPGROUND

TUESDAY JULY 23, 2015

BOY..... and girls, we did pack a lot into today, so lets get started.

Camp rollout

Up with the sun,
Gone with the wind,
............................................
....................................................
These are the memories that make me a wealhty soul
These are the memories that make me a wealthy soul
Bob S.

The road goes left

The road goes right.

The road goes........

I find there is no better way to meet, observe, laugh with, laugh at........ people(I won't even get into the pet thing) than cycle touring.
This guy behind Kris and Hyla was asking us if perchance we saw the other wheel for his bike over the past 20k's or so.
Nope!

I preach that is not about fitness, preparation, perseverance, .....
Its all about if you are
LOOKIN'  GOOD
Nine out of ten here!
(there were times when I would be riding a couple of hundred metre back. The oncoming trucker's blasts on their horns seem to die out by the time they got to me??)

The road goes down.
That's all I have to say about that for now.
Lets not ruin a perfectly good post yet.

I wonder how far to Watson Lake?

No sooner than we sat down and were enjoying the best coffee in town, who did emerge from the adjacent motel was Jean Francois.
Another cycle tourer whom the girls have been hop scotching with across Canada.
JF joined us at our table and the three started a rapid fire conversation that no French English language barrier could stop.
The Brotherhood and Sisterhood of cycle travel.

Meeting again down the road and more stories.
JF is a terrific guy and embraces the passion of sport that I admire in many Quebecois.
Please take a look at JF's travels.
Vancouver-Courcelles-à-vélo
JF writes a touching commendation of the ladies.
Tres Bien, Tres Bien

JF

I travel with some spare brake pads. Was going to offer Kristen the set just in case but the girl DOESN'T use brakes. Evident on this descent by that orange dot yonder.
For the loved ones reading this, I will not post Kristen's beaming announcements of her NEW personal best....
The Canada by Cycle guide noted that the if one wishes the fasted descent of the whole trip is just a day or two ahead.
OUR LADY OF BLESSED ACCELERATION,
DON'T FAIL US NOW!

Now in Rossport and just a quick assualt to camp, we do a little sightseeing in this quiet but friendly village.

No more speed, I'm almost there
Gotta keep cool now, gotta take care
Last car (did) to pass, here I go.
Golden Earing

Today was a good test. A 115km roller coaster.
I'm getting somewhere in life.
Stick around for a night of northern hospitality.

A SUPERIOR CYCLING TOUR - D4

MONDAY JULY 20, 2015
THUNDER BAY TO NIPIGON, ONTARIO, CANADA

Kristen and Hyla ,with some special helpers, will use this morning to do a quick pit stop in Thunder Bay.
A troublesome tire needs some attention.
I'll take advantage of their latter departure and slowly head out and try to find my legs.
(Hope there still not back at the Porter baggage claim.)

We'll meet soon.

With the focus being on packing up, including my bike, and moving out of our lovely house the past month or two, I'll be thrilled to bag the 99 today and will ignore the 675 for now.

99 KILOMETRES OF ROAD TO NIPIGON
99 KILOMETRES OF ROAD..........
IF ONE OF THOSE KILOM................
.....................................................................
(it'll give me something to do for  5-6 hrs)

The next couple of days I will find myself tackling some climbs where I gained inspiration from thinking of what this young man did compare to my little inconvenience of ...........
I believe he ran what would work out to one hundred and forty four marathons in  row.
(Nicola and I ran a half marathon last fall. I might have done it multiple more times but didn't come close to having the time for all I spent telling people I didn't even remotely know for at least a month of my epic achievement.)
Did I ever tell you that last November Nicola and I ran a half.........

“I don’t feel that this is unfair. That’s the thing about cancer. I’m not the only one, it happens all the time to people. I’m not special. This just intensifies what I did. It gives it more meaning. It’ll inspire more people. I just wish people would realize that anything’s possible if you try; dreams are made possible if you try.

Meeting some cycle tourers already. This couple on their first tour started in Barrie and plan on circumnavigating, going around, whatever, Lake Superior.
From talking and just judging by their smiles it won't be their last tour.
Welcome to the club.

“I'm not a dreamer, and I'm not saying this will initiate any kind of definitive answer or cure to cancer, but I believe in miracles. I have to.”

Today my focus is on surviving my first 100
Not too many road pictures here.
Please keep moving on

Quick, like our mail, stop.
Eat
Drink
Spin
Repeat

Nipigon and all smiles from this side.

ROTI TIME
I glady loaded up on supplies for us all in Thunder Bay.
With anything that comes out of my panniers, no body is happier to eat in more ways that one than me.
Seconds ladies?

Nighty, night.
Sweet dreams are made of this
113 Ks
and lovin' it

Stayed tuned for some serious rock and roll

A SUPERIOR CYCLING TOUR - D2/3

SATURDAY JULY 18, 2015/SUNDAY JULY 19, 2015

As cycle touring goes, Kristen and Hyla's arrival into Thunder Bay is on the schedule of we get there when we get there and that will turn out to be Sunday pm.

That will give me a couple of days to find some parts that I must have left behind either in our new storage bunker, on the condo floor, in the back of the Escape or perhaps with the big tear in my bike box on arrival somewhere at 15,000ft rolling around in a Porter Air bird.

It will also give me some time for a little sightseeing and loading up on supplies for the ride.

Getting a little inspiration piecing my bike back together.

Canada's Women's Team pursuit on their way to gold.
Kate and I were at the track to take in the heats.

 The Sleeping Giant

Most locals I talked to spoke of hope and despair.
Not uncommon in any community that once was heavily dependent on pulp and paper and the moving of grain.

"Thunderstruck"

Thunder, thunder, thunder, thunder
I was caught
In the middle of a railroad track
I looked round
And I knew there was no turning back
My mind raced
And I thought what could I do
And I knew
There was no help, no help from you
Sound of the drums
Beating in my heart
The thunder of guns
Tore me apart
You've been
Thunderstruck

Without too much planning all I wanted to do in Thunder Bay was leave and go to the notable
 Hoito Restaurant
for some Finnish hospitality and PANCAKES.
Just wasn't in the mood. Will wait for a pancake partner.

THIS GOES OUT TO ALL THE
PUNKS GROWING FOOD

Hey look who's here.

 Hyla Nemy

Kristen Flath

After a nice lunch we part and prepare for tomorrow.
Hyla is no stranger to Thunder Bay. Having worked in Cat Lake, Ontario, some 400kms north of here for nine months,  the ladies will spend the night at Hilliary's, a professional acquaintance.

I will now go rest and drift off in thought.
All my life I've had one dream, to achieve my many goals.
