With having to return our rental tomorrow, today we will venture back up into the Andes.
Remarkably close to Santiago lie a collection of three ski resorts. Still looking to get out of the heat and just explore we will visit Valle Nevado and area.
Then hopefully a little mountain meadow to spend our night.
We found the road to Portillo quite attention grabbing.
My idea of relaxing after just getting HERE would be to go ski some double black diamonds!
This portion was quite calming. Some sections up to where so narrow and heavy to switchbacks that can't imagine what happens on days when everyone heads to the hills.
Here at mountain top we will find the resort fairly well appointed with condo style accommodations but other than some workers, a few fellow tourists, one restaurant and the BIRDS, completely closed and deserted.
Can add a new one to my bird sighting list.
I did have one on but it was from seeing it on a stamp.
During our travel planning we came across a handful of sights and scenes that we thought would be special and unique to our trip.
One was to see a Condor.
Preferably not stuffed or in my hair.
Preferably not stuffed or in my hair.
Here we were entertained not by just one, and for as long as we wanted to watch them swoop and circle off the hotel perches.
Leaving Portillo pretty much had me resigned to the fact that I can scare myself on any ski hill just as well in the Northern Hemisphere.
Other than a much more interesting obituary, might not be worth the haul.
Here, other than the drive up and the long day back and the mind nag how will we get down, the skiable terrain looks like a much softer and gentler blend.
Getting black and blue.
We'll start our decent in search of camp.
This driver had it planned out and used the
"Caution Curve"
sign to slow their fall off the ....
I saw the car flying through the air stunt once at the Welland Fair.
On our decent we will pass a couple of more ski and vacation areas.
Coming next: Happy campers.
