MAGIC MOUNTAIN, LONDONDERRY, VERMONT. USA

LESS WILL BE BETTER
(other than the snow)

On a run of visiting some trails less carved and old ski school destinations. Not a detachable in sight. Travelling today in hope of recapturing some of yesterday's, pre-mega, mountain magic.

"go small and we won't go home"

March 22, 2018
Towards the end of February when we were thinking of putting this trip together, we had the will, but Vermont did not have the snow.
Then via the weather channel, fake news that gladly was all false truths and an assortment of web cams similar to the one above, the lights turned from red, to yellow, to white being a green to go.

With a handful of hills already in mind as target destinations, Magic Mountain was the, unknown to me, odd mountain out that was quickly put on the list. Selling themselves, am I'm buying, as "old school", "set your soul free" ,"less travelled" we're in!

This being Throwback Thursday. A nicely reduced lift ticket price further aligned this planet ski.

With the locals wanting in, making lunch was less than serious business.
On a sandwich diet!
Standard by day.
Ben and Jerry's by night.

(Editor's note: Not pictured here, but being in Vermont we bought a cheese log. It was encrusted with what we believe to be walnuts. )

Black and white magic.

The first fifty years of Magic lead up to a rather difficult recent history. Financial troubles closed the hill till just last season. Some entrepreneurs with more skiing heart than possible fiscal sensibility re-opened the hill.
Its this gusto that has prompted us to visit and show the little support we can.

“Dreams are not made to put us to sleep, but to awaken us.”

Pretty much one of two lifts.
Keeps life simple. (unless you are colour blind)
Meet you at the top of Red or Black chair.

We are there,
 yet,
.........

Good Old Raisons & Peanuts
&
Dark Chocolate Almonds & Dates & Dark Chocolate Chips &.....

Much to our approval, the Green Mountains were looking pretty, pretty white.

The area is host to three ski destinations.
Our target tomorrow, Bromley Mountain.
Kate today is in the valley exploring the local Nordic Centre.

The place has some nice steep pitches.
If that's your thing, Aunt Gladys.
If not, this place has some steep nice pitches.

High times @ magic mountain.

Talking about "magic", have plenty of time wondering how they do that "cut and restore rope trick"?

The bigger neighbour, Stratton Mountain.
Our parents brought my brother and me there some fifty years ago.
Kate and I dragged the girls there some fifteen years ago.

Every hill that I will hit this trip will be a first. Part of this quantity, I will have skied six hills, and cherished quality trip is to try to continue to top up my number of places I've skied. Feeling extremely fortunate, prior to this excursion I have skied at seventy nine different and various hills, peaks, valleys, mountains, resorts, .....

Hoping to continue the tradition of most being of the fondest memories I have of friends and family.

Solar system batteries rescue.

This was possibly the slowest, longest fixed grip chair I've been on.

Tick Tock
Grandfather Clock

Savoured every minute of it!!!!
It's rides like this that shrinks the fast times.

Do you get what I'm saying?

We will miss a "Spring Fling" by just a couple of days.
Should've reserved this bench.

I believe in magic.
the blogger and his Volkls.
Hoping to be able to grow old together.

Much Success

Just like the local syrup,
SWEET!
Keep the lifts spinning.

SUICIDE SIX, WOODSTOCK, VERMONT, USA.

LESS WILL BE BETTER

On a run of visiting some trails less carved and old ski school destinations. Not a detachable in sight. Travelling today in hope of recapturing some of yesterday's, pre-mega, mountain magic.

"go small and we won't go home"

March 20, 2018

One little hill on route that I thought would be fun, in name, to ski was Suicide Six.
The nature of our calendar, nearing the end of the season and being mid week, we visited knowing that it wouldn't be open mid-week to ski but would provide some solitude for a winter walk.

Tradin' Places.

Just a day off Spring, the sun from the south is starting to show its form. Its the persistent northern wind that's not letting winter, and the great snow conditions, disappear anytime soon.

We now will continue south to my fifth hill, and Kate's Nordic adventure of our trip,
Magic Mountain.
