WELLS GRAY ADVENTURES, HUT TO HUT HIKING - 9th Lives of Gray

August , 2014
Day Four

TABLE with a MOUNTAIN view please.

Trophy Mountain

Our fourth morning will rise with much promise
Oddly the post will not start with photos us eating but heading out for a day hike.
We will be spending the night back at Discovery Cabin.

Our well structured, organised and moderately difficult hike to get to this area makes this old cabin and its history of early "living" in this remote area even that more remarkable.

Not always do I like to know where I've been and where I'm going, but here lets take a look.
Yesterday we made our way from Trophy Chalet, across Eagle Pass to Discovery Cabin.
Today we will try a assault on Table Mountain.
Later I will be making an assault on the dinner table mountain of food.
I wonder what we're having?
I wonder what we're having?
ummmm!!!
mountain of food

There's so much more to this experience than my ramblings can cover that I would strongly advise clicking on the link below to get what all this park affords.
Coming from Ontario, most of Kate and my early adventure were by canoe.
We even did a fair bit of cross country ski camping.
Might need to come back.

Kate and I are enjoying the diversity of our group.
Here Diane from Chicago leads Julie, who has come from California to enjoy this not so available guided hut to hut experience in North America.

Usually, on my own, or with Kate we would enjoy the solitude of the mountains and nature.
This mountain top is in more ways than one my Higher Power.

Here having summited, it is like some things in my life now how nice it is to share these on the spot experiences.
It's also part of my "going over niagara paul's" project.

It has been our luck and thus enjoyment to have hooked up with such a great ensemble of adventurers.

The furthest of the two clearings in the distance is are target for tomorrow, Flight Meadow.
Hopefully there is hut out there as well.

 Kate Nemy and the blogger.

Here Don from Orleans, just outside of Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA , leads a discussion,
"is what surrounds us here enough proof that nature is not a waste of space"

WELLS GRAY ADVENTURES, HUT TO HUT HIKING - 8th Post of Wells

AUGUST, 2014

DAY THREE -WRAP UP

Our day was long but good. Discovery Cabin will provide ample hospitality in this remote part of the park.

Looking back towards Eagle Pass that we earlier traversed.

Here we again join for what has become more than just eating. They are meals with many shared enjoyments from what has proved to be another rather spectacular day.

Later the evenings were filled with quizzical conversation ranging from the boxing segment on the TV special, "Battle of the PBS Stars" where Julia  Child beat the shit out of Mr. Rogers to the never to be won "discussion" on "the Littlest Hobo" being a cross dressing alcoholic.
Makes the dog look good compared to what goes on now a days.

We will all sleep well tonight. The last significant climb of the day is to bed.
Like in the mountains, sometimes going down is the trickiest.
Midnight repelling.
Think twice before that second bedtime tea.

Our past Hut to Hut trips have seen us in a variety of sleeping arrangements.
Here I believe the term would be Open Concept.
Not as much a Time Share but more a Floor .....
I like it. NO SECRETS!

Considering our locale, all Kate and I would want, as here, is to be dry and warm. Even coolish cold is quite acceptable

One past trip I took was advertised that it will
"Mould your character"
Latter to mean that when I woke up I had mold on the character being me.
That explained the mushroom omelet that we had for breakfast.

Good Night

Dream, dream, dream, dream
Dream, dream, dream, dream

When I want you in my arms
When I want you and all your charms
Whenever I want you
All I have to do is dream
Dream, dream, dream

Everly Bros.

hope I don't see any birds

WELLS GRAY ADVENTURES, HUT TO HUT HIKING - 7th Heaven of Gray

Day Three

ON THE MOVE

Ron: Alex, I'll take "What is Glissading" for $200.
Alex: The answer is:

Day 3
Today you hike north to Discovery Cabin. The route is through total wilderness and a guide with a map, compass, and good knowledge of the area is needed. After a couple of hours in the alpine you drop down into the mature forest and lose altitude until you come into the Valley of the Lakes. Lunch here and then continue into alpine meadows until we cross Eagle Pass at 6700 ft (2061m). From the top of the pass to the cabin is only 45 minutes of gentle down through glades. The cabin is in a very remote and wild valley. The hike today is 11 km over about a 1000 foot elevation gain and takes 6-7 hours including a refreshing swim!

After endless up-close Audubon moments, you see for yourself that there were red, yellow and a kind of purple flowers.

The astronauts had Tang.

The trails offered their challenges but proved well maintained.

What expedition is not struck down with ailments. Here a team collective goes into action to address Glenda's growing blister. It has become aware to all of us that at this point of our trek that we can ill afford losing anyone, much including Glenda
She has become a intricate part of the laughing with, at, about,.............

Here Don's reaction seems obvious when I ask for help in spotting Eagles.

NO CHOCOLATE FOR YOU!!!!

Though our group might have for numerous reasons yo-yoed periodically, we were quite harmonious in strengths, wishes and obeying well directed orders most times.

So to make the sight of Discovery Cabin even that more appealing, just at the end of our day we got a little rain.

Hope they have our reservation.
I'm talking dinner reservation.

Day Three

Trophy Chalet
Our third morning will see us on the move.
But before we leave we all got some business to do do.
And by the way, what we have here is the outhouse.
The stairway to composting heaven.

Here's my review of:
Tom Cruise in
"Mission Compostable"
SHITTY

Upstairs sleeping cubbies.

 Room with a view

We will all share in the daily duties.
Order of good cheer.
This morning Diane and Glenda are the washing machines.

Here the last bits that haven't been reduced, reused or recycled gets torched.

Today we will be on our way to Discovery Cabin.

I'm hoping that crossing "Eagle" Pass will give me a renewed start on my bird spotting list.
Just recently got the bad news that I can't count birds that I've seen at a zoo, on a stamp or in my dreams.
