WELLS GRAY ADVENTURES, HUT TO HUT HIKING - 11th Shade of Gray

AUGUST, 2014
DAY FIVE

DISCOVERY to FIGHT

A long day ahead had the coffee and us on the move early.

 Today's forecast:
Moistly Sunny

Day 5: We continue northward up and over Table Mountain. Today a good trail takes us through some of the finest flower meadows in the world. The trail leads us up the Ridge of Table Mountain, and then descends into the forest to the Philip Lakes. (If you are on the five-day trip, you have a three-hour downhill hike from here to the top of a small dirt track where a shuttle awaits to take you back to civilization.) The trail now is a gentle uphill grade through forest and then into the vast meadow system of Cariboo and Fight Meadows. After hiking through these two meadows we come to Fight Meadow Chalet at 6000 ft (1845m). There is a large lake near the chalet, which is a historic site where two Indian Tribes fought for Caribou hunting rights. The 5 km hike to lunch gains about 800 feet. The remaining 11-km drops to the lake valley and then gains about 950 feet.

My guess here is that we are heading to and around the far lake.
Then onward to the meadows.

I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world
The Carpenters

Near our mid hike we rendezvoused with our re-supply team of Ian and his son.
Whats in the haul bag?
COOKIES!!!!
Thank you

Smile!
Isn't this a nice photo.
(Things must be going well. Even Christine is smiling!)

Looks like we're going the right way.

Where's everybody going?

Some of Kate and my favourite times to tramp are early morning and evening.
Its when we do both and the full day in between that we know we've made some tracks.
At least I didn't have to get the headlamp out.

Look at this!!
Even garlic bread.

I haven't had Italian like this since taking the kids to the
Spaghetti Laboratory

Today my day will end unlike Portnoy's,

NO COMPLAINTS
