We enjoyed our first
tour guided by locals, Tours4Tips. With a different routing (I checked, not through the bad barrio of town) we're in for more.
But first, can't go on an empty stomach,
Dos Empanadas Pollo Quesa, por favor.
Here our guide explains the rich commercial business that made this port one of the busiest on all of the west coast of South America till, how'ed he put it, in 1912 that dammed Panama Canal.
With this portion of the city renown for its hills and the unique architecture that it brings and the endless murals of great depiction and relevance, here our tour explores the UNESCO portion that they don't, hopefully less, rob people.
Many of the artists have developed an international reputation and following of their own.
The town is a run with dogs.
Most appear non life threatening.
Late for school?
Slip, slide away.
Mid tour refuel. Alfajor. A Chilean staple.
A filling of gooey manjar caramel is sandwiched between two soft shortcake-like cookies and may then be dusted with icing sugar, dipped in white, milk or dark chocolate, or simply left bare.
(good but not great. just to be sure I've had about one hundred so far)

All have a story.
Many I don't understand.
Enough of the walking tour.
Now for the much hawked Port tour.
Just one container up there is the approximate size of a tractor trailer.
Can you imagine we put our lives in the hand of this skipper.
Whats Spanish for SOS.
The whole tour was in Spanish. With much laughter, somewhere we thought we heard, "stupid Canadians" generated by our last comic sitting.
Here I think he is telling me not to photograph any naval vessels.
They laughed, we cried,
we kissed 3,000 pesos(6 bucks) goodbye.
We did get to put "boat", barely, on our list of transportation modes.
Due to the obvious nature of the terrain, those smart Valpos installed numerous funiculars throughout the city.
This is one of the newer ones at somewhere one hundred years old.
They know when to change the cable is when it snaps.
Don't be afraid. That's our baker.
If the Alfahor is not working for you, try one of those lime tarts on the right.
Oh, you want the whole pie.
Good choice,
Good choice indeed.
Our travels haven't been exclusive to the more famous parts of the city and perhaps cuisine catered to the tourist that might go along with it.
We are finding everywhere a local staple being french fries, (could be McCains) topped with various sauteed meats, fried onions, the occasional egg,...
Here we are just doing our job of being engaged travellers.........
Just doing our job.
Up next on our last day we will do a highlight walk.
Then we better get movin' on as we still got a lot to see.
Si Si
