CYCLING THE NORTHERN TIER, GLACIER NATIONAL PARK - DAY ONE- PART FOUR and FINAL.

JULY 29, 2012
GOIN DOWN THE HIGHWAY.

What can you write about when you get to go pretty much downhill for thirty kilometres.

As I descended there was a delicate blend of fresh mountain air and BRAKE SMOKE.
Mountain goats lying precariously on a gentle slope.

To keep the refurbishing of these sightseeing buses as original as possible,
 the brakes were not updated.
OK folks, here we are at THE TREE! Do you want to borrow my helmet?

Bike wash. I had my water bottle on the ready
in case he didn't damp her down.
Heading down there somewhere?

I sing my heart out to the wide open spaces

I sing my heart out to the infinite sea

I sing my vision to the sky-high mountains

I sing my song to the free.

CYCLING THE NORTHERN TIER, LOGAN PASS, GLACIER NATIONAL PARK - DAY ONE -PART THREE: REACHING THE SUN

JULY29.2012
LOGAN PASS, GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, MONTANA, U.S.A
SUMMITING THE GOING-TO-THE-SUN-ROAD
Elevation, 661,683,,325 M

Snow.
Seems like a much more civilized way to get to the top.

We all know that the Continental Divide was made famous by John Belushi's movie of the same name. Even though lower by almost four thousand feet than the Beartooth Pass that we were at, here the deep valleys make this area so dramatic. These towering slopes are pronounced in the movie were John stops for a smoke break right at the very crest. Thrown off balance by his rucksack, he falls for ONE HOUR to the bottom. For the way John lived, this was no big deal. At the bottom, he dusted himself off, re-lite his smoke, and then for that micro second, looked into the camera, lifted one eyebrow, and then carried on "reporting"

Grizzly claws can be three inches in length. Quite glad just to
read about it.

Getting a parking spot at WalMart during Christmas is for rookies.
Getting one here!!!!!!
Who has seen a grizzly?

I am always very conciensous of my well being and fluid intake. Seemed like on the climb up all I did was drink and P. At the top I didn't know if I wanted to direct it to the Pacific, Atlantic or the Artic. So I did the sprinkler.
More about my good friends at Clarkson's Cycle later.

Getting ready to head down. Can't wait.

CYCLING THE NORTHERN TIER - GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, DAY ONE- PART TWO. 45 YEARS AGO

JULY 28, 2012 and 1967
One of the endless scenic stops on this road is to view Wild Goose Island.

Here I stand.
Here stand my father and mother in 1967. We as a family past through the park.

Here's another from '67. Can you find a match?

There are places I'll remember

All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better

Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments

With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are gone and some are living

In my life I've loved them all.

This ride was so special, going to break it down. These photos are of my ride up. My saddle time for the 30kms was about 2 1/2 hours.

Here we go.

Logan Pass is the actual Divide.

The road and traffic for the ascent was quite good. The grade in spots not so.

My Fuji. Basic, but I like.
On a Chrome Moly horse I shall ride.
