NEW MEXICO OFF-ROAD RUNNER. NEMY. PAGE08/32. HEADING TO THE ORGAN MOUNTAINS.

Thanks for joining us. Not sure where I’m more fortunate. Getting a propelling experience in with our two daughters or riding a portion of the incredibly beautiful bike packing adventure that is the New Mexico Off-Road Runner. To do both together, well, a liberating journey of harmony and adventure I’m beyond grateful for. This once guiding father now thankfully follows the many inspirations Hyla and Nicola have become. More so Nicola’s passion of a gravel road less taken…………………….
………continued below.

April 16, 2019

Our first day of off-road running will throw at us, other than some ponderosa sub alpine, most every kind of surface we'll ride.

Never to be ungrateful for some sunshine, it's soon that Nicola, Hyla, Paul, got to be some Mad Dogs and Englishman around here somewhere, are in the mid-day sun.

Hitting the wall.
Blazed and confused.

"Is Hell, Hell for (my) children,

Love and pain
become one and the same"

Most disliked surface rising quickly to the top of my list were dried out gusher gullies.
Deep fine gravel made it virtually impossible to ride and a pain in the arms, neck, legs, ... and yes ass to
push through.

Its the uncertainty of how long one's good or bad fortunes last that add to this adventure of challenge.

Think I'll have some PB because my legs are starting to feel like jelly.

It wasn't long before our misfortune of loose gravel gave way to.......
.....steep climbs
Wait a minute.

Tackling the overall route from south to north, even just the portion we will do, we will end up with a net elevation gain.
Living and breathing some of it here.
This being like many images, steeper than it looks.
Guessing 8%-9% range.

Giddy up.
Ya right.

I'm sensing that the region is
"steeped"
in geographic history.

High achievers.

If the word on the street, ranch road is correct, there is some water over yonder hill.

………….Here you have found one of thirty two posts chronicling our pedaling and pondering of Cass Gilbert’s excellently presented and documented “New Mexico Off Road Runner”.
Like life and a blog, please enjoy cha-cha cha-ing back and forth, newer and older, for a time of my life.

When I was a kid I rode my bike to be more like an adult. Here as an adult, I ride, thanks to the girls, to be more like a kid again. What a playground.

Transcending the family bound, here, as in the past, we saddled up as compadres ciclismo.
