THE TRANS CANADA HIGHWAY. RIDING ALBERTA'S NO1. MOOSE JAW

September 20, 2019

Heard some nice things about the campground:

"We hadn’t planned on traveling all the way to Besant, but we were enjoying ourselves and made it there around 8pm. I’m glad we pushed onwards because it might be one of my favourite campsites yet. Family run and the man that checked us in couldn’t have been any nicer or more helpful. It felt like we had a wooded corner of the campground all to ourselves."

Stealth is Stealth.
Closed is Closed.
Moving on is moving on.
A pie carousal is a pie carousal.
ymmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I skipped the Slurpee,
but if I was you I won't skip:

THE TRANS CANADA HIGHWAY. RIDING ALBERTA'S NO.1. CHAPLIN, ALBERTA, CANADA.

September 19,  19

Late summer in Chaplin, Saskatchewan. CANADA.

Chaplin downtown.

2015

I have endless admiration for Kristen and Hyla's crossing of Canada.

Journaled here:

I think I have even more admiration for them sticking their heads in the door of the Chaplin Hotel.
I did have some food options so didn't have to worry that if I went in,
would I ever come out,
alive.

Except from Chais and Chains:

"It turned out to be a beautiful day of riding. Yellow canola fields and blue flax fields. Cool weather, a few lakes, and quaint towns. It started raining when we rolled through the tiny town of Chaplin and we popped our heads into the Chaplin Hotel to see if we could grab something to eat and wait it out. The place was empty aside from the owners, a Korean family having a big family dinner. It was a feast! They had a griddle going in the middle of the table and were frying up seafood, sausage, veggies and some fish they caught that day. They insisted we try some of their food while we waited for our own (delicious of course!). Typical of everyone we met today, they were so friendly".

I did mention that I had some food options in Chaplin. I didn't say good food options.
Sous-Marin A La Pizza Super. Tasted better this way.

THE TRANS CANADA HIGHWAY. RIIDNG THE NO.1. GULL LAKE TO SWIFT CURRENT, SASKATCHEWAN. CANADA.

September  18, 2019

.....and thank you and good-bye.

After arriving in camp yesterday, especially after a nice shower, I was looking forward to the five minute cycle to downtown.
Was in the mood for a little sit down supper and enjoy a night out.
Not happening.
Like the few small towns that I'll explore, this place probably peaked fifty years ago.
Not much open, as in, ever open.
It continues that the few people that I did meet, along with the little grocery store were friendly as ever, but, perhaps unnecessarily, couldn't help feel a little sorry or sad for these struggling communities.

My combination numbers, NOT!

Harvest season.

They seem to be endless.
These grain elevators are pretty much the only structures that dot the horizons.
Connecting the dots,
ribbons of rails.

Loosing weight!!!!!!!
Nearing my end,
I continue to the likes of a balloonist heading for power lines and jettison even the most mundane.

I think that prior to my travels, if I had to pin the tail on a map,
Medicine Hat, Swift Current, Moose Jaw,.....
I'd know the province but guess exactly where after that.

My only connection to these and a bunch of other names I'm recognising are from Don Cherry's rants on Hockey Night in Canada.
Firstly, his controversial ranting about some player who's name he couldn't begin to pronounce form some eastern block European country that didn't come any easier.
Then endlessly endorsing some kid from Pincher Creek that spends eighteen hours each summer day pitch-forking one ton bales of hay across......

Swift Current,

and if your looking for a metal works and fabricating operation and holding yard,
there is one right by.
A working town!
