TIERRA DEL FUEGO, PARQUE NACIONAL, ARGENTINA.

February 01, 2017

After some news that I didn't react that well to,
"they're hiking our condo fees!!!!"
I vowed to never have anything to do with anything "hiking" again.

But how often does one get the opportunity at the end of the world.

Beagle Channel with Chile on the horizon.
It would be those very mountains where the likes of Drake and Darwin would have seen the fires that gave this region its name.

Extremo Sur Americano

The thing that you are suppose to do here, and I do emphasise "SUPPOSE", in case you go running  to your mailbox, is to send a postcard to all your loved ones from the southern most post office in the world.
(At least we thought of each and everyone of you.)

This pier is one of the most southern.....

A number of journeys to this terminus point at the end of the Americas are recognised by these stickers.
This past summer's cycling adventure in the USA west had us come across some individuals that were riding the classic Alaska to Argentina route.

I know for fact that some great people previous to me have sat on this very log.
Makes me feeling very special and photogenic.

Take a hike!

So for today, like many things around here,

The End.

Coming next: No where else for us to go but back.

USHUAIA, ARGENTINA. BY THE SEA

January 31- February 1-2, 2017

I was quite concerned on our way here.
I misinterpreted that this is the end of the world.
So the world is coming to an end?
No, this is the end of the world!
So the world IS coming to an end?
No, this is the end of the world!

Let me get this straight............
I'm kinda glad because all those postcards I WAS going to send but,
should or shouldn't we make dinner.....

Ushuaia, Argentina.
Fin du Monde

Centolla Capital
(Crab Capital)
You will find lots of the crustacean at reasonable prices, NOT!

Cruise line destination and major jumping off port for Antarctic tours. We thought we would look for a "last minute, day" deal.
Deals are all relevant.
Probably could have found something usually going for 10 days, US $10,000/person for US$7,500/person.
Deal I guess?
Will just rent:
March of the Penguinos

From where we've come.

To where we are.
Terra del Fuego

The areas resources were involved in what might be one( top five FOR sure) of history's most epic rescues.

The port was active in the Falklands War(1982).
Touchy subject in these parts.
We clearly defined Canada's in/exclusion in the Commonwealth.

!!!!!!!!!!

Coming next: Tierra del Fuego Parque Nacional.

USHUAIA, ARGENTINA. BY LAND

January 31- February 02, 2017

Fin du Monde
Ushuaia, Argentina.

Our Hostel.

Our Hostel, not!

Is it possible that they are still sending all the undesirables to this end of the world?

If there has been one thing that we have found over the past couple of months, is that if there isn't a long line(s) at the particular grocery store that your at, there might be something wrong.

USHUAIA, ARGENTINA. HEADING TO THE END OF THE AMERICAS

January 30, 2017

Today we are off not quite to the end of the world but pretty much to the end of the Americas.
Ushuaia, Argentina.
We were hoping to catch a ferry to Puerto Williams, the community just across the Beagle Channel that Chile claims as the southern most town in the world.
All in the general neighbourhood.

We will for about eleven of our twelve hour journey pass through the vast barrens of the Patagonian desert.

Our relatively short ferry passage will officially deposit us in Tierra del Fuego.
Soon after we arrive at the Argentinean border.

Each passing day of our travels, and since I and we have begun travelling many years ago, reconfirms how forever grateful we are to live in and come from Canada,
except..........
when visiting Argentina.
Someone in Ottawa must have pissed somebody off here, as only Canadians and Australians must pay a one hundred buck "tourism fee" to enter.

This smiley face in the seat ahead of us kept popping up every one hundred kilometres or so.
Glad you did!
The world needs a little(a lot) more of this international language.

The last hour or so will see us pass through a rather significant mountain range that backdrops the city.

The range also makes this area an end of the world ski centre in the winter.

Welcome to Ushuaia, Argentina.
There have been some bus journeys that we questioned which stop to get off.

Not here.
